When a Deal Might Not Be a Deal
The New York Times reports that the Clear Channel deal with Bain Capital and another private equity firm may yet fall apart. Apparently the banks who promised to fund the deal are trying to back out. The whole thing may end up in court.
Negotiations continued on Tuesday night, these people said, but if a deal is not reached, Clear Channel and the two private equity firms are expected to file their lawsuit, possibly as soon as Wednesday.
Radio advertisers are hoping the deal goes through... and that the private equity owners will bring in more savvy management with a fresh vision to lead the industry's number one owner of radio stations.
