The Ben Zander Series - "BTFI"
The first thing you might notice about Ben Zander is his style. He's not your typical stodgy speaker taking himself so seriously and constantly looking for validation from the audience. His voice streaks high, his arms often flail, and his movements across the stage can be suddenly wild. He's goofy. And comfortable.
He shakes you out of your typical reference points of what a highly accomplished male should look like, and in doing that he exemplifies fearlessness authenticity.
Which is important because this is a central part of his message. He calls it "BTFI". Beyond the fuck-it. It's when you pass the point of worrying about what others think and you "play" (or live) from the inside out. Ben Zander connects his students with their intrinsic expression of the music, hopefully disconnecting them from the intellectual level where fear of judgment impedes full expression.
Why is a music teacher and conductor presenting to a business audience? Because all businesses can benefit from a little more fearless authenticity.
Because Ben Zander exemplifies what's often missing in the world of serious business - emotion, lightness, play.
Go BTFI.
