Apple's New iPod Helps Radio Remain Relevant

Apple launched its fifth gen iPod in September and the radio industry got a big boost. How? It includes, for the first time, an FM tuner.

As Advertising Age reported, it also goes a step further - as only Apple is known for doing, by including not only a "buy from FM" option that integrates with iTunes to allow purchases of songs heard on the radio, but also a DVR-like function which allows "listeners to pause a song from a live radio feed, rewind it or resume listening after switching to another station."

Clearly the story isn't over for the 85 year old radio industry. Fast forward a few years and it's clear that devices such as iPods will play a significant role in the distribution of content - in a way that rivals radios, televisions and even the typical computer.
