Radio host Howard Stern has extended his contract with SiriusXM for five years in a deal estimated to be worth as much as $100 million a year.

Stern announced the news live on his show last week, saying, “And despite the naysayers and the ridicule, we have persevered, and are thriving. I’ve been proven right about satellite radio over and over again.  With this contract renewal, I can’t wait to see what else I’ll be right about.”

According to the Associated Press, SiriusXM had 600,000 subscribers when Stern announced in 2004 he was leaving terrestrial radio to join the satellite radio company, and he started at Sirius in 2006. The satellite radio giant now has nearly 35 million subscribers, and Stern is a main attraction.

Stern’s renewal with SiriusXM is evidence that the company can continue to retain top talent.
