Podcast listenership is expected to grow 10% this year and 7.2% next year, reaching 126 million listeners in 2022, according to eMarketer. By 2026, the firm predicts 42% of the U.S. population will be podcast listeners.
More people are listening to podcasts, and they’re spending more time each day listening. eMarketer estimates that podcast listeners will consume about 20 minutes of podcast content per day in 2021. By 2023, that number is expected to top 25 minutes.
The rise in podcast consumption is good news for podcast advertisers. According to eMarketer, podcast ad revenue will reach $1.33 billion this year, a 39% year-over-year increase, and surpass $2 billion by 2023.
