Travel companies spent nearly $900,000 on podcast ads in May, roughly doubling their April podcast spend and surging 244% above 2021’s monthly averages, reports Magellan AI. Brands such as The Expedia Group, Hotwire, and Airbnb reported the biggest increases.

In addition to the travel sector, other product categories are upping their podcast spend. The retail industry saw a 74% in podcast ad spend in May compared to April, and consumer electronics was up 47%.

Podcasts are impressive for their effectiveness across an array of products and services. The biggest advertiser during May was the online mental health service provider BetterHelp, which claimed the top slot for nine consecutive months. In second place was HelloFresh, followed by ZipRecruiter, Amazon, and GEICO.
